The Rolex 24 at Daytona is one of endurance racing's most iconic events — 24 hours of flat-out competition through day and night on one of America's most storied tracks. Night racing at Daytona has an energy all its own, and the infield Ferris wheel becomes an unlikely backdrop, its spinning lights streaking into abstract color behind the machinery doing 200 mph just feet away.
This is one of my favorite shots I've ever taken. The contrast between the raw speed of the car and the carnival chaos in the background shouldn't work — but it does. I stood at that corner for a long time waiting for everything to line up, and this was the frame.
