The Rolex 24 at Daytona runs through an entire day and night cycle, and the brief window around sunset produces some of the most dramatic light of the entire race. The sky turns the color of fire, the track lights haven't yet taken over, and for a few minutes everything is bathed in that warm, heavy gold that only lasts about twenty minutes before it's gone.
Endurance racing at sunset hits differently than any other motorsport moment. The cars have already been running for hours, the drivers are deep in their stint, and the world just briefly turns beautiful around them. I was in the right place at exactly the right time for this one.
