Snowy Egret
Captured in the bright florida coastal light.
Subject: Snowy Egret (Egretta thula)
Location: Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Florida
Season: Spring
The Snowy Egret is a study in elegant contradiction — pure white plumage set against a slender black bill and ink-dark legs that end, almost comically, in brilliant yellow feet. Those "golden slippers" aren't just for show; the bird shuffles and stirs them through the shallows to flush out small fish and crustaceans. Stalking the impoundments at Merritt Island with deliberate, deliberate grace, this one paused mid-hunt in the open water, lores glowing yellow against the morning sun.
